Femina is an audiovisual work establishing symbolic balance between women, the Church, and the natural world — before the storm of Bishop Richard de Ledrede's arrival in medieval Kilkenny.
In Scene One, female voices and pitched bells merge through granulation into a grounded drone at the graveyard of St Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny, symbolising rooted spirituality and feminine resilience.
Scene Two ascends upward and outward as the tree canopy transforms into kaleidoscopic, stained-glass-like forms, suggesting spiritual transcendence.
The first work in a four-part electroacoustic portfolio exploring the prosecution of Alice Kyteler and Petronella de Meath — Ireland’s first witch trial — through audio and image. Femina sets the emotional foundation for the portfolio’s larger narrative arc, establishing the world before it fractures.
