My name is Dane Hiipoi Nakama, I am a fifteen years old, and art is my passion. I live with my mom, dad, sister, grandma, and my dog, Oreo. I have lived in the state of Hawaii on the island of Oahu all my life, but I've always wanted to do something greater then the limits of a little island in the pacific. This is where art comes in. I have loved art all my life, I started sculpting my own characters when I was four years out of paper towel and tape. From there I would sketch, paint, and move onto other mediums such as clay and wire sculptures. I would spend all of my birthday and Christmas money on art supplies, and books to teach myself new techniques. When I was around ten years old I discovered the work of the modern masters, and I fell in love. I spent my summer studying art history, and the developments of art. From the old masters like Rembrandt to modern masters like Dali or Matisse, and now continuing my studies with contemporary artist such as Hirst and Murakami. In my spare time I love to read books on new ideas, and techniques I could possibly use in my next pieces. I know I am very young and still have a lot to learn but I want to change the world, and art is what will let me achieve that goal. I am completely self taught and hope to further my skills through new understandings and ideas expressed through art. I know this really hasn't told you much about my personal life, but I guess it just shows how much of a part of me my art is. I am still a normal teenager who hates school, gets ok grades, and loves to hang out with his friends, but I want to do more. I hope to always be different, to change the way we think, to make the next change in history, maybe even solve world conflicts, I don't know. All I know is that whatever I share with my art, is going to get me through life. Art has been there for me even when I thought nobody was, and I guess in some instances art has saved my life.
