I was born in Bong Wha in South Korea. My hometown had river and mountains and is one of the most beautiful places in Korea. The nature nourished me in many ways ever since I was a child and I used to draw and write poems a lot inspired by the beautiful surroundings.  I studied nursing in the university and worked for 6 years as a nurse in the Sevrance Hospital in Seoul. And I saw so much sufferings and death during that time and it made question ‘life’. I read many spiritual books and tried zen meditation but my question grew bigger. That’s why I had to leave the hospital to search for the spiritual answer before I got too old. I went to India and learned with many different masters. Eventually I met a Master, Supreme Master Ching Hai who imparted me Quan Yin meditation method. Through this master and meditation, I gradually found all the answers I saught. Also after I was initiated into Quan Yin Method, my artistic talent came out and I naturally started to paint again. By that time I got married to a Canadian man in Canada where I had a lot of encouragement to paint from my husband’s family. So I studied art with a few different art professors in Korea. And I went to art contests and won three times and had exhibitions with oil paintings in Korea. But later on, I realized that I had painted something that I was not from my intention but something to satisfy the demand of the society. I thought that I  needed new stimulation for my arts and my husband wanted to move from Korea as well.

In April, 2012, I moved to San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico in search for the new life and new environment. One day I was fascinated seeing so many different beans in the market and I told my husband that maybe I wanted to use beans for my art. Then he said “that’s very good idea!” That’s how I began to use beans for my art. I’ve been working with beans almost every day and I found that it is more and more interesting to work with something that has life in it. I heard beans have life energy for hundreds years. I use non toxic glue too keep life energy for the beans, so that if somebody plant beans from my art one hundred years from now, they will sprout!

I love the natural colors and textures that beans have. I often feel that I have intercommunication with beans when I am doing artwork. When I use paint I had to control all the colors and balance of the work but when I use beans I often follow the power and balance that beans have. I surrender to the greater power through meditation and admiration to God. And that’s where all my artwork comes from! Also I tried to incorporate the ancient design of Mexico into some of my artwork. My intention is to bring the ancient beauty into modern life through my work.
