Jonathän Jouan grew up in Brittany where his father was an architecte. He followed him on many construction sites and understood how it was tough and long to build or create something. His creative passions faded with the time and he decided to follow his predecessors through the history of art. Thus, he settled in Rennes, but his desire to create something tangible made him move towards something else.

Many years later, Jonathän left the country and started a new life in Montreal, city of street art and multiculturalism where everything is possible. L’École d’ébénisterie d’art de Montréal welcomed him in its locals and five years later, he advanced his learning of the subject and started his first collection about Japanese Folklore. His creations as a cabinet maker were innovative and originals. Being one of the few artists working merging straw marquetry and wood in the region, give him a lot of creativity. He follows three paths:

First one is ornamentation. He expresses it through the straw marquetry technique. Second one is versatility through the object transformation possibilities over time and according to your desires. Third one is rather more personal: “I grew up in a house where our furnitures were transmitted through generations. With time, I understood those furnitures or those objects had a soul, and that soul tell and teach us stories about the past. Thus, I try to reproduce this in my creations that relate stories and histories that will age with you”.
