Sbongiseni Sbanisezwe Khulu is a full-time printmaker and visual artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Born 1990 in KwaZulu-Natal, he matriculated from a technical high school and furthered his studies within civil engineering. Dissatisfied, he pivoted towards a Fine and Applied Arts degree at the Tshwane University of Technology in 2010. There he majored in sculpture and printmaking. In his third year Khulu was amongst the 2012 PPC Young Concrete Sculptors Awards Finalists (PPC Imaginarium). This led to his appointment as co-student assistant of the sculpture studio at the University in his fourth year. In 2015 he began working as a printmaker at the David Krut Workshop based in Johannesburg. In 2016 he became one of the founding members of Danger Gevaar Ingozi Studio alongside Anaz Mia, Chad Cordeiro and Nathaniel Sheppard III. Khulu currently holds a BTech degree in Fine Arts, and is a printmaker at the David Krut Workshop as well as Danger Gevaar Ingozi studio. His body of work questions the status quo and the compliancy in which we perceive it to be reality. With it he explores his interests in interrogating identity, self-reflection and existentialism.
