The work of Txema Novelo is a curious blend of mysticism, rock n' roll, radical politics, and videogames. Through a process of ransacking, perverting, and miscegenating these disparate influences, Novelo has developed a uniquely powerful creole language of sigil-like form and action within the realms of video, installation, performance, and sculpture.

He studied film at the University Center for Film Studies (CUEC) at the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City and at the Vancouver Film School in Canada.

His work has appeared in the Third Public Art Forum at SAPS in Mexico City, the Havana Biennale '03, Image Festival of Toronto '02, MACO Mexico '04 and '06, ARCO '05, the VII International Call for Young Artists at Luis Adelantado Gallery in Valencia, Spain, Frieze Art Fair '06, The International Contemporary Film Festival of Mexico City (FICCO) '07, and the Second SIVAM Visual Arts Contest in Mexico City.

Novelo has exhibited individually at Yautepec, Ramis Barquet Gallery and Museo Experimental El Eco as well as in different collective shows in museums and galleries across Canada, the United States, Poland, Spain, Cuba, Argentina and Mexico. These include Museo Carrillo Gil (Mexico City, Mexico), The Contemporary Art Museum of Poland, "Zamek Ujazdowski" (Warsaw, Poland), The National Museum of Art "Reina Sofia" (Madrid, Spain), La Casa Encendida (Madrid, Spain), and Fundacion Telefonica (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

In 2004, Novelo was selected for the prestigious "Young Creators" Grant of the Mexican National Foundation for Arts and Culture (FONCA), in the New Media Division. In 2006, he earned the 2006 Arts & Media Grant from the Mexican National Center of the Arts (CENART).
